Every year, Curry Senior Center hosts Be A Santa to A Senior (BASTAS) to support Curry Seniors with gifts and necessities for the holiday season. Since 2009, we have provided thousands of gifts to isolated and low-income seniors.

With the help from our partners, Home Instead Senior Care and CVS, we can spread holiday cheer throughout the month of December.
We spoke with our partner and the owner of Home Instead Senior Care – San Francisco, Frank Billante, about BASTAS and the holiday season. Frank has owned Home Instead Senior Care San Francisco for five years.
“I became involved in 2015, as Home Instead SF was already involved with Be A Santa To A Senior with Curry Center. As I learned more about Curry, I wanted to support them as much as possible. Being able to support Curry Senior Center, who helps less fortunate seniors, is something that my Jesuit education was all about.”
Frank was born and raised in San Francisco. He attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory and the University of San Francisco.
When we asked Frank about some of his highlights from working at Home Instead, he said “I have been fortunate that quite a few of our clients are families I grew up with. We have been able to assist them with aging in place at a time when much is needed.”

At Curry Senior Center, we have a variety of holiday parties including Kwanzaa and Hanukkah celebrations. Holiday parties and community programs allow seniors to be able to connect with their peers and our staff.
Frank had a few things to say about the holiday season:
“The holidays are very special to me, Christmas being my favorite, as it’s a time to get together as a family and give thanks. This Christmas for me is all about hanging with my family. I have two children, one 35-year-old who is getting married in May, along with one son, 17 years old, who is graduating from high school in May. I want to spend as much time with them and my 92-year-old as possible.”

Curry Senior Center is wrapping up BASTAS this December. You can still be a part of BASTAS this holiday season by visiting a participating CVS store in San Francisco, selecting an ornament off the Christmas tree, and purchasing an item for a senior in need.
